The Custom Cottage is an affordable custom furniture shop and showroom serving Grand Rapids, West Michigan and Central Michigan. You describe, show us a picture – we build at a price you can afford.
The Custom Cottage is an American small business created to return solid furniture manufacturing back to our country. We make our furniture from northern hardwood trees that are milled in Michigan, kiln dried to “furniture grade”, built and finished in Grand Rapids, MI. Your investment in our furniture is an investment in our states, our country, but most importantly our citizens.
What is Custom Cottage furniture?
Our furniture is custom — it is handmade for you.
A few weeks after you place your order, one of our Grand Rapids craftsman builders will begin selecting your wood to personally build your furniture. Finally one of our craftsman finishers will take what was built and apply the finish you selected. As a result, each piece of furniture is unique.
Our furniture is cottage — it has imperfections.
There are many styles of cottage furniture. What they have in common is the handmade look where imperfections in the wood and the workmanship or just time has seasoned and added to character of the piece of furniture.
Our furniture is redemptive — it reflects a second chance.
Every craftsman is a work in progress. None of us are perfect and we all deserve many second chances. Whether it is a new start in the workplace or in life, our craftsman know what it is like to appreciate that second chance.
We credit the Lord.
God is in charge of our marketing, our skills and talents, our designs — the whole thing. He is our CEO, CFO, COO and BFF. Our response is to give him the credit and say “thanks”.

“We love the 2 barn doors that Custom Cottage made for our new home. Guests are always commenting on them and wondering who made them. And of course, we brag about Custom Cottage and all who work there!
We also had Custom Cottage build a beautiful boot bench made out of 2 old doors from the old cottage. It turned out perfect! They painted it the color of our trim and distressed it just how we wanted.

“I cannot say enough about our bunks from The Custom Cottage. We purchased them to replace some cheap pressed wood and laminate beds we bought online that split down the middle when my then two year old sat on one. These bunks were a little more expensive, but you get what you pay for. My 200+ pound husband can read a book to my daughter in the top bunk with no worries. The piece is solid and beautiful. The best part is they are locally made. We made some changes to the bed like adding a second rail to the upper bunk with no problem. Be sure to plan ahead. Since your piece is custom made you won’t get it second day Prime. It’s worth the money and worth the wait.“
“My new bed, cubbie shelves, and dresser arrived this week. I absolutely love them! The classic grey stain is beautiful and really showcases the grain in an almost barn-wood but not rough look. We opted for drawers and cubbies under our bed, and although the bed is high, it has a fun look with my hand made quilts showcased in each cubbie. The wood is heavy, the furniture is sturdy, and it will easily last us our lifetime. It is a much higher quality than anything I have looked at anywhere. “My husband and I have always put our family before ourselves. Have 20 years of marriage we purchased our first new bed and the a few months later we purchased the night stands. The bed was completely custom. The headboard fits perfectly under the window, the footboard short enough so that I can easily make the bed, change the sheets and turn the mattresses. The side rails are extra wide so the queen comforter doesn’t fall short so the mattresses don’t show. Finally the frame height was lowered so the bed is the perfect height. So too are the night stands custom size and height. We were so happy we just ordered a second bed in black with a custom bookcase as the headboard.
